"One of my favourite films from my childhood is Mary Poppins (amongst a shedload of others!!) and I waited and waited until the inspiration came to me for the right scenery. And here it is, Practically Perfect In Every Way!
We have the London skyline, viewed from the south Bank, the 'other' side, where there is a whizzing magic carousel, a mysterious carpet bag with a hatstand that, who knows, may just have been plucked out of the bag. The pigeons are starting to flock around, maybe they need feeding. A couple of penguins walking down the street . . . It sounds almost cartoonish!
The usual graffiti artist has been at work again with a 'super' long word and a pixie that states its level of authenticity! And it seems Mrs Banks has been out protesting for women's rights again! Good on her, I say. A note from a certain P.L. Travers has been posted on the railings saying that 'no American should ever work on a Poppins project ever again!' If you've ever watched 'Saving Mr Banks', you'll get the reference!
Over the water are lots of chim-chim-chimerney pots with something going on around them and captain Boom's ship and cannon on the roof, getting ready for the 6pm salute! In the starry sky are the murky faces of the Banks family, Dick Van Dyke's 'Bert' and, of course, Mary herself. A large full moon shines brightly . . . Almost looking like the top of an umbrella. Hmmmmm . . . strange that. Especially how the stars align underneath. And, are the carousel horses flying over the moon . . . Surely not!
I hope you fine the magic (and much more) in this piece, it's taken a while to get this one just right but I think it really is just perfect. I hope you do too.
Enjoy and thanks again
Neil x"
